New trends in wellness tourism

If the main goal of your next travel expedition is to be completely crowded and/or a lazy vacation, you are definitely behind the times.

Wellness travel is all the rage these days. And no, we're not just saying that because we're a travel blog that focuses on health and well-being, but international organizations made up of health and wellness industry leaders attest to that. A study was recently published on the growing trend of wellness travel, concluding that it is growing even faster than general global travel.

And yes, wellness tourism is exactly what it sounds like. It's travel for the purpose of maintaining, managing, or improving health and well-being. This can mean taking care of your physical, mental, or emotional health through activities like yoga, fitness, and spa treatments.

While you may think that sounds great, you may also be wondering why this is necessary. But think about it. Most of the time we imagine vacation or travel to be something relaxing and wonderful, but in reality it is often stressful and can disrupt routines like exercise, sleep, and normal eating habits.

But rather than allowing the harmful cycle to repeat itself, many travelers are now embarking on trips that are specifically geared toward maintaining and improving their personal health. They are seeking vacations that actually rejuvenate and de-stress them.

According to the study, wellness tourism is a $438.6 billion global market, but it only accounts for about six percent of all domestic and international travel. However, it is projected to grow by over nine percent each year through 2030.

Currently, wellness tourism is most popular among citizens in the United States, Germany, France, Japan, and Austria. But growth is predicted in countries in Europe, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East/North Africa.

If you're planning your next vacation, you might want to consider focusing on the common good. While it may be different from what you're used to, we have a feeling you'll thoroughly enjoy it.
