Wellness at home?
At home is the most beautiful: 4 suggestions on how to turn your home into an 'imperial' wellness
At least once a month, turn your home into a place for relaxation and beauty treatments - the only spa where you don't need to book an appointment days in advance! It only takes a little planning to prepare everything you need to relax in your private wellness area. We bring you a few ideas for an easier start
1. Create an atmosphere
Dim or completely turn off the lights and create a special atmosphere with the help of candles. If you turn off all the lights in the bathroom, light enough candles so you're not tapping in the dark, but don't relax so much that you ignore safety. So be careful where you place them! For an additional relaxing effect, play around with scented candles and essential oils: the scent of lavender can have a beneficial effect on alleviating the effects of stress and depression, jasmine is known for its relaxing and calming effect, and roses can have a similar effect.
The sweet smell of vanilla naturally warms and encourages good thoughts and good memories, and you just need to find the aroma that suits you best. Play soft music or a favorite album that you haven't listened to in a while. Maybe you're not really into the relaxing music that most often blares from the speakers at wellness centers – luckily, this one can only please one person, you!
2. Small home treatments
Preparing the perfect homemade body scrub is easier than you think. You need a cup of brown sugar, a cup of oatmeal and a cup of olive oil. Mix everything well, then gently apply to dry skin, rubbing in circular motions. An important part of the ritual is gently rubbing the scrub on the body, so don't rush and enjoy every movement.
Remove the peeling with a towel and then take a shower, after which your skin will be as soft as a child's. Rough skin such as that on the elbows or knees can be softened by gently rubbing fresh lemon. Citric acid softens and brightens the rough parts of the skin.
Make a nourishing face mask that will refresh and hydrate your skin (it's also nice, so if you have any left over - nice!).
Mix Greek yogurt, a teaspoon of honey, and squeeze a little lemon. For an antioxidant effect, mix in chopped blueberries. Spread the resulting cream on your face and let it stand for twenty minutes, then wash it off with warm water. Finally, if you really want to relax your whole body, fill the bathtub with a little essential oil and enjoy.
3. Dedicate yourself
Silence the phone. Try to refrain from taking selfies, and if you really have to, take just one to document your enjoyment, but then devote yourself only to yourself, without technology! Hum, meditate, flip through a magazine in the bathtub, or do a crossword—whatever relaxes you. Make your time yours alone.
4. Enjoy the rest of the day.
Extend your spa corner to the living room: with the scent of essential oils, candlelight and comfortable pillows, turn it into another oasis of relaxation. After the treatment, slip into a bathrobe and soft slippers, brew green tea to cleanse the body of toxins, and relax with your favorite movie or series.
