What are wellness and spa and what are their differences?
Wellness and Spa industries are recording a growing trend from year to year. The growing tendency of these markets comes as a result of a shift in the attitudes of the population, which is increasingly focused on improving health and quality of life, which is manifested, among other things, through the use of the services of these centers. Wellness and Spa represent two different terms and businesses, although many often equate them. Are these differences minor and unimportant, or is it just a matter of individuals being unaware? Here are the differences between Wellness and SPA pleasure, as well as what Wellness is in general.
Wellness as a way of life
Wellness, as a lifestyle, represents the aspiration of each individual to achieve a perfect balance between mind and body. The term was first used by Dr. Halbert Dunn more 1961. It is created as a coinage of two terms, well-being (to be well) and fitness (to be in shape), denoting a focus on maximizing the potential of individuals. Employees in this industry strive to teach their clients to think in terms of wellness mode, which does not mean just going to the wellness center a few times a month, but reaching a state in which we will be able to do the things we want without any special effort. This primarily means activities that affect to improve the physical and mental makeup of the personality, such as a healthy diet, regular exercise, an active lifestyle, quality time with friends and family, etc.
In addition to the above activities, visit wellness centers is certainly one of the most important elements when it comes to a wellness lifestyle. Treatments that these centers provide, such as royal wellness at the Hotel Kralj, are an easy and quick way to relax and recover. These places are the ideal environment to regenerate your body with the help of hydro-massage pool, relax partial massages or Finnish saunas. You must have wondered what it's like to be part of the royal family, now you have the opportunity to experience it, at least for one weekend.
Spa center as an oasis of relaxation

On the other hand, when we talk about the spa industry, the first association should be a spa or mineral spring, given the origin of this term. Namely, the term spa is an abbreviation of „"healthy through water"“ which loosely translated means „"water to health"“. Lately, spa centers are becoming increasingly popular both in Europe and in Serbia. The spa, as a kind of oasis of relaxation, offers its visitors a whole range of services, starting from various cosmetic treatments, manicures, pedicures, body scrubs, treatments with chocolate, seaweed, mud from the Dead Sea etc. Which treatment you choose depends on your preferences and possibilities. All activities take place in a relaxing and pleasant atmosphere, with the support of friendly and professional staff.
Differences between wellness and spa centers
Although wellness and spa are fundamentally different, it is not uncommon for people to equate these two industries. What's more, today it is a very common practice to open and develop these oases in a joint form. In theory, this would mean merging different service offerings into one, but in practice it is often different. Namely, even the owners of wellness and spa centers themselves often they don't know what name and form to put their business under, so we encounter a whole range of services, treatments and environments. Therefore, it is not surprising that there is a dilemma among individuals when it comes to these two industries. In order to resolve the same, we would highlight the following as essential differences:
- A wellness center bases its business on (medical) treatments, while a spa center is a place for relaxation;
- Wellness offers services primarily oriented towards various types of massages, while the service offering of spa centers includes beauty and body care services;
- In certain circles, wellness is defined as a necessity and spa as a luxury. With this in mind, the prices of wellness services are generally lower than the prices of spa services.
Basically, wellness centers are focused on solving the core of the problem and we can metaphorically compare them to mechanic shop. In them you repair your vehicle, prevent it from breaking down again and learn how to preserve and maintain it. The vehicle itself in this case is your body, soul and mind. So from time to time, treat yourself and your loved ones to some with royal treatment, because you know what they say, A healthy mind in a healthy body!
